My first car was a '72 VW Superbeetle that I paid $400 for.
The steering wheel came loose once on my way to work.
Throttle cable fell off another time while going through a tunnel.
I was doing some welding on it and didn't know the main wiring harness passed behind the rear fender well. All the wiring melted together in a sticky blob 
Broken fuel line, leaky wheel cylinders, etc, etc. |
