Won't be redoing the top as it seems to be 50/50 from every other comment thread I started, but I did play with the colors a bit... The way I look at it is that it can't be made to look perfect for everyone. 
The hardest part of web design is making it look good in IE AND other browers. IE and standards contradict themselves too much.
