What all have you got connected to the UPS?
If you want more uptime, don't connect your monitor. I have my old 21" CRT connected to my UPS and its power hungry. But I only care if I get 5 minutes to save my stuff (I actually get 20).
My UPS paid for itself a few years ago when most of the country East of Wisconsin lost power. Before the power went out completely we were getting a massive brownout. I went to check on the computer and somehing was burning (electrical smell....) Turned out my UPS took one for the team. APC replaced my unit too, now thats good support!
