I've wanted a game like Spore before they came out with SimLife. They couldn't decide if it was a tool or a game, so it became neither. Oh well! Can't wait! I did hear somewhere that mutations have costs associated with them so you can't just evolve to the finished creature - that sounds good, but it's probably taking a long time to get all the game balanced out... |
From what I've seen and read, and I think I've seen everything I can about this, each "level" be it the creature level, the tribal level, or the spacefaring level, all have little pickups you need to get like eating an egg, other creature, or finding a fantastic rock. Apparently these all add to a point base that allows you to build your creature or whatever is most important at the time based on your level. Pretty cool concept, really. It forces you to go out and explore and use your creations instead of having a hands-off approach like in Sim City.

Actually, in the presentation that Will Wright made on procedural engineering, he demo'd spore and made a lot of mention about how the game was designed to be modded originally. There has been quite a bit of talk about how he wanted to make sure the game was able to be modded by the community and easily shared so that the galaxy view wouldn't be empty. I'm definately looking forward to seeing what other people make as I come across them in the space view. |
