While there isn't nearly as many viruses in *nix as there is Windows, there are just as many exploits. I have to see them, and deal with them all the time.
Just like in windows, most of the patches/upgrades to things other than the kernel that you have to do on a *nix box are security/exploit related. *nix also has the problem that too many applications have to be run as ROOT, not a pseudo-root, but as root. At least in windows you can set up another account as an admin and use that for running applications. And I guarantee you a properly secured W2K3 server is as or more secure than a properly configured *nix box. |
