Ever heard of the expression "It's lonely at the top". Seems like it applies here. This doesn't mean we (the USA) have to be hard asses all the time, just that we shouldn't worry about pissing people/countries off when the time comes to make the hard decisions.
If these other countries were truly our friends, they would understand our reasons for making the decisions we have (right or wrong). Instead, they choose to try and knock us off the mountain (so to speak).
