This happens more than people realize. It's not just by hacking, or purchasing the info. Sometimes people go through legit ways to get the information. That's what happened with Choicepoint this past December. A group posed as a legit company, and paid to get access to the information, which in turn used it illegally.
This is why we've installed HD encryption on all computers at the bank I work at. |
