This weekend I rented a movie (had them clean the DVD) because movies have been freezing up in the entertainment room on the standalone dvd player.
Well half-way through the movie the damn thing froze up, so I went to another room and tried that standalone dvd-player... it froze at the SAME location in a different unit. Bummer!
The computer saved the day though. Using PowerDVD I watched the rest of the movie w/o a glitch on primary rig. Any idea why the 2 standalone dvd-players had trouble?
After the first standalone unit failed I tried cleaning the disk and trying the scene again, no dice.
I was going to buy another standalone dvd player but this doesn't look like its the problem....
Opinions? If another dvd player won't solve this problem maybe a HTPC would be a better replacement than another crappy standalone dvd-player.
BTW, it wasn't just this disc. I've been having troubles with most of the recent dvd rentals from my local rental place. (whether they "clean" the dvds or not....)
