Yeah, NJ got hit pretty hard. It's much worse in South & Central NJ, but it was still very windy and knocked out power all over the state. There are tons of trees down, utility poles snapped in half, flooding around the coast and much more that I haven't seen. I only went out Wednesday to work and back. In the am I didn't see any signs of power (no traffic lights working), but by the time I came home I saw a small strip on a small highway that was powered. So it will come back slowly.
Knight, I actually am fine, the only thing happened to me is the cable tv/internet went out at 10:30pm Monday. My street has power, but it doesn't look like the rest of my community was as lucky. The word is 7-10 days for power to be restored. I am using my cell phone tethered to my computer when I need it. At least I have good cell coverage at my home. (some areas are completely dead, and sometimes text msgs are the only things that work)
My office has been out since 7pm Monday, and we are closed until power/internet/phone lines are restored. I went in on Wednesday with a few people to get some things shipped out. We had 3 generators for lights and to get some of our servers up for a few hours.
Gas is another problem. There are very few gas stations with power. Some are only cash with the internet being out at some places. People who have generators were out trying to fill up their gas cans, there were actually lines down the street probably up to 1/4 mile at least, maybe even a 1/2 mile long. Some people parked their cars, and walked up with their gas cans. I actually saw a line of people with red cans in each hand.
Tuesday I walked in the woods with my neighbor. The trails he has been clearing are a mess. I will post some pictures of downed trees in the woods
It is going to be a long time before things are somewhat normal. |
