First thing I would try is to clean the heatsink and CPU with denatured alcohol, then put some plastic over your finger and rub the AS5 into the heatsink and wipe it off. Then get a razor (clean it also!) and spread a thin, even layer of AS5 over the core.
I quit using AS months ago, because Shin Etsu is much better. You apply it in a totally different way and you can't mess up the thickness or even-ness. If you'd like to get some X-23 or G-751 and instructions on how to apply it, let me know.
