| Yeah I think I might go rack mount. It will make the whole draw idea so much easier. I can get these and some rack mount draws to make the project really easy. |

You'll most likely be stuck with looking at HTPC type cases, almost everybody has gone to the tower design.
That being said, you could always find a tower the size you want, and just lay it on it's ... |

I'm getting close to being in the market for a SSD. Not sure if a full upgrade of my machine is really needed when a new drive could really speed things up.
