I have the Asus A7V8X. During a bios update the computer froze. The PC is now not bootable. Should I assume the worst here? Do I have to replace the bios? Any help well apperciated.

Did you try clearing the cmos and rebooting?
if so, your bios is probably hosed and you will need to either get a new chip with a working bios (via ASUS or another online source), find someone with a similar board and perform the risky "HotFlash" procedure or send your old chip to someone who can flash it for you.
Lastly you might luck out and the bootblock is still intact. I believe it requires you to have the bios and possibly a .bat file on a floppy in the floppy drive and hold down a key..........you might want to google bootblock and asus a7v8x for the particulars. _________________
