Well up till now, I have had no complaints whatsoever with Comcast's service. Few outages, good d/l speeds, etc.
But as of tonight, there have been 3 DNS server outages in the last week.
There has been no real explanation for it either. Supposedly hardware failures Confused.
Fortunately there are other DNS servers we can use and I can surf, but this is getting more than a little inconvenient.

I copied this from a very trusted user on a different forum. I dont have Comcast so I have not had to do this but maybe it will help.

Quote:

They've been having DNS server outages. Comcast is working on it but this is the 2nd major outage in 6 days and I've been having minor DNS hangs off and on all week.

Quick workaround is to use alternate DNS servers.

More info here with a list of alternate DNS servers: http://www.broadbandreports.com/for...154925#13155426

Hope that helps

Yep, thanks Dad.
The Broadband Reports forum is where I hang out sometimes and where I got the alternate DNS servers from.

All is well as far as that goes, but I am a little concerned about the largest HSI provider in the country not being able to resolve a national outage like this.
I will be patient, but if it continues to be a problem Mad

I have friends on Comcast, they've been having problems with their DNS server as far back as October. I installed ALLTEL's DNS server IP's on thier machines in preference over Comcasts.

I had comcast over 2 yrs ago and after the crappy speeds and frequent internet connection drops (sometimes for over a day of no internet) I switched to WideOpenWest.

Its like night and day. Very seldom does WOW go down and even better - twice now they have UPGRADED my speeds for free! Cool, eh?
