I am sure many of you like me have been following the concept of the space elevator for some time now. It just blows my mind that with all the scientific advancements we are still sticking the idea of making a cable driven elevator that goes to space. I fully understand that rockets may be tough to use especially with the fuel getting so very expensive, but our back up plan is built around the pulley system...really?! What is even more crazy is that this concepts popularity is going leaps and bound year over year.

well, it is one of the world wonders in Civ4... I say build it so we can have the added science bonus.

I wonder though... would doing something like the picture significantly alter the earth's rotation or orbit?

I would think that to alter the rotation or orbit the counter weight would have to be extremely large. Lets see who can find the calculation needed to pull the earth from its orbit Smile
