YsSMN mobo/cpu goes back to when they were in DreamCatcher and this mobo has seen a 165, 175, and now its current 170. When it was placed into YsSMN there was an M$ software issue and I had lost all of the settings, so had to start over. As it turned out that may have been a blessing!

However in the beginning it also taught me a valuable lesson in just how much of a NOOB I still am. Anyway this is where I started

Vcore: 1.500V
Memory Voltage: 2.80V
CPU Frequency: 250
Hammer Fid Control: 9X
HT Frequency: 3X
PCIE Clock: 100
Memclock: 166
1T/2T Memory Timing: 1T

DRAM > Tcl: 3, Tras: 8, Trcd: 4, Trp: 4, Trrd: 2, Trc: 7, Trfc: 14, Trwt: 3, Tref: 166 @ 15.6, Twtr: Auto, Twr: Auto.

Spent a lot of time running a lot of tests (stresscpu, Super Pi, Orthos, Prime, etc.) and was happy to see that I had finally broken the 280 FSB barrier using ClkGen. However I was all that thrilled about the results…… my highest ClkGen being 282.2 @ 166 2T = 2.54GHz using SPi. The whole time I had been in communication with ud over at pcper(oc mentor and pull me out of my mistakes kinda person King ) during testing and he kept dropping hints about something I should look at in my settings. Then I happen to find some screen shots from prior testing and then I picked up on it!! The “Hammer Fid Control" (multiplier) for the 165 is 9X, however for the 170 it should be 10X. DORH!! Duh Rolling Eyes

So after trashing all of the results for the wrong multiplier, I went back to work – the only change being the 10X multiplier. My goal as usual was unrealistic for my set up, but as before that didn’t stop me > I WANTED 2.7GHz “STABLE”. Well as it turns out I just couldn’t get there, close but no cigar.

My best stable ended up being:
FSB = 268.2 / 10X / HT Link = 804.3 / DRAM Freq = 223.6 for 2.683GHz @ 166-2T backed up by a 12 hour run of Prime that I stopped.

As it turns out my best ClockGen for 166-2T ended up being:
FSB = 275.8 / 10X / HT Link = 827.5 / DRAM Freq = 229.9 for 2.758GHz with an 4M run of SPi

My other goal was still the elusive FSB value of 280, but I should realize by now with a multi of 10X I couldn’t reach that, or could I? So dropped memory back to 133-2T and gave it a whirl.

Did the ClockGen thing again, but at 2 voltages, 1.450v and then 1.50v to see how far I could push it. Again I realize these values would not be my final settings, but wanted to see if my goals were reachable “regardless”.

My best value for 133-2T @ 1.450v was:
FSB = 279.5 / 10X / HT Link = 838.5 / DRAM Freq = 186.3 for 2.795GHz with an 8M run of SPi

Then my best value for 133-2T @ 1.50v was:
FSB = 281.1 / 10X / HT Link = 843.3 / DRAM Freq = 187.4 for 2.811GHz but only managing a 1M run of SPi.

So it appears if I squint hard enough I did reach my 280 FSB and therefore 2.8GHz goal not once but twice!! Also if I really wanted to push the “rounding numbers” thing I got it stable. However what made me the happiest was the fact I’m running a good, strong, and stable 2.683GHz using 1.450v and allows me to run in the mid 50sC in my closed MicroFly.

Under the guise of “research” when this setup was still under DreamCatcher’s name, frustrated as hell because I couldn’t push my 2GB of memory as far as I wanted, and the fact “less memory” is faster finally sank - in I got a real wild hair. At this time I could not get past 280 at all and 275 looked to be my limit, so..........

Laying on the table of F/S stuff was the only non-2GB set of memory I still had (just now remembered the 2 x 512 g. skill for the server) > 2 sticks of Corsair CMX256A-3500C2PT (unmatched). The previous owner stated that he had had them at 217 MHz with 2-3-3-7-1T timings.

So with WTF and for S & Gs #whatever in they went.

Everything I did with this memory was as “bootable” and NOT ClkGen. I managed to eek out an 8M run of SPi at FSB of 294 @ 133 2T (2.94GHz)! Went to try a dual run of Prime but seems 2 x 256 isn’t enough memory! So tried Orthos, which required me to drop back to 288 (2.88GHz)and had 55+ minutes run going when I lost power at the house for 2 days.

So there you have it …… broke the 280 barrier and kissed 300 with a totally useless setup. Just wished I had not “lost” my screen shots. The only one I could find is for a bootable 2.88GHz & 8M run of SPi.

the best socket 939 mATX board for overclocking... long live the Biostar 6100-939!

I hit 3.0GHz on mine, but with an x2 4800+... congrats!

Sadly that particular board must have taken a major static hit (thumb drive insert) as I've lost all of my usb ports. Bang Head Sad
