Built a system for a friend and when M$ did the XP updates SP3 was included. This is the system specs:

Case: Ultra MicroFly
PSU: Ultra 600W (from a MX6) [update later]
Mobo: Biostar Tf 7025-M2
CPU: AMD 4400+ Brisbane (CAA4C 0725WPDW) w/ zalman CNPS8700
GPU: MSI NX8800GT OC (Dual Slot version)
Memory: 2 x 1024 Corsair CM2X1024 – 6400C4
HDD: TBD
Optical Drive #1: Lite-On SATA DVD-R #DH-16D2S-04
Optical Drive #2: Lite-On SATA DVD-RW+ #LH-20A1S
FDD: Mitsumi Card Reader/ Writer + Floppy
OS: M$ XP Pro w/ SP3

Received a couple of emails from a friend about issues in playing his main games, The C & C series. As noted in his comments the only difference other than the new system, the BB refers to a NF7-S system I built for him, is the install of SP3. Wouldn’t think there would be a hardware issue, but open to suggestions there.

“Not sure what I did, tried to load command & conquer: Yuri’s revenge ( expansion pack) will load and install but will not play?”

“Tried the other CD’s no luck in that department still comes up with a “Fatal Error” however it does allow me to register and stuff, but to load not working for a game play no luck. Is their a way we can undo SP3 and only load SP2? I seem to recall everything worked on BB in SP2.”

I’m too software challenged to make any usefull suggestions other than SP3 being the problem.

Try Right clicking on the exe that starts the game and go properties, click on the compatibility tab and try running it in like Windows 98/ME compatibility. See if that helps.

Also, another thing may be process explorer, the sysinternals tool. Some games register that tool as an anti-cd or other cracking tool. I had to turn it off to play all my EA games released after Dec 06.

As he didn't have to do it on the older system (98 compatibility) and as there is nothing too critical on the hdd (just some test stuff to copy) we're going to reinstall w/o SP3 to confirm that it isn't on the SW side and maybe hardware.
