A kid I know from school let me borrow his graphics card while I'm waiting for the warranty to replace mine. The only problem is I have no idea what the card is other than the fact that it is an ATI. My computer can't recognize it and I can't contact him until Tuesday to ask what model it is. I was wondering if there was any program that I could get that would tell me what I'm using.

Got a pic?

Some benchmark apps are good at IDing cards (if you can get it installed, but that sounds like the problem... Try Everest, look under Display - Windows Video:

This doesn't happen to be a Linux install? I'm getting tired of Linux never configuring my ATI cards right...

If you can't even run with it, I think you should try posting a pic.

I'm currently using the video card. It works but I can't do anything beyond the basics. The program you suggested said I had a radeon x800 pro, but when I installed the drivers it made it worse and I couldn't see anything, black screen.

That Silencer 5 is just an aftermarket cooler your buddy must have installed.

What can you do with the card? Windows stuff, but no games?

Can you determine if it's a "Built By ATI" card? You will need to examine the card physically. I don't know if this method works for third-party vendors such as Sapphire, Powercolor, etc.

Read this tutorial to ID the card's serial number and this online application to decode the serial number.

You can also try Belarc Advisor to ID the card.
