hi, just bought a nexstar Lx harddrive encloser, have set it through router . 5 gig hard drive, i am able to access the file through my network, lapptop and desktop. How do I set it up to access it through the internet using ftp . Any help please on how to set it up . New to networking so step by step wolud be nice. Thanks in advance.

Hi...

Hard to give a step by step, since it relies on other hardware, etc...

But the first big step is to set your router up to open a port from the Internet to the LX.

Do you have access to your router over the local network? Access it, figure out the LX's address, and use the router software to point to it with port 21 for FTP.

You have to be able to use port 21, as many ISP do block the typical ports to keep people from hosting at home.

You obviously also need to access the LX firmware and make sure FTP is enabled and that it grabs an IP automatically using DHCP, or set everything up manually with IPs, gateways, etc...

Speaking of the LX... I just reconnected mine to see if I could help you once you posted more details... Dead!

The drive spins up and the cooling fan works, but the power/status LEDs stay off and I can not connect via USB or LAN.

Anyone want a dead NAS device? Cheap!
