So WD finally has the new Raptor out. The 300GB, 3 Gbps VelociRaptor.

Raptor was always my Nr.1. Its only downside is that it lacks the capacity...because if it only came in 500GB and 1TB capacities...along with some decent price...it would be a win-win situation. But like it is...it's reserved only to people who care just about pure speed (unless they buy 2,3 or 4 such Raptors - then the capacity is also there, but at what price Yikes

). Still it's King

of the hill no matter what. Period. Grin

I did not read the full review, but does anyone know if they can be used in a laptop? that would be sweet!

The price isn't too bad either, one dollar per GB is actually cheaper than previous raptors.

Well once again... WD had a chance, and F'd it up.

A high speed drive, with only a 16MB Cache. Nice job there WD. Way to get the most out of your customers wallet!

Notice how the review only compares against other WD's and not any other brand? Wonder why that is??? Hmmmmmm

Not solid state. And it may be 2.5" compatible, but warranty void if you remove it from the caddy. Special screws and a seal across it I believe.

well, if its internal transfer rates are fast enough - cache is less of a factor.

Well...there are other 2.5" hdd's already on the market with even bigger capacities...so I dont see nothing revolutionary in this VelociRaptor. Confused

And these other REAL 2.5" hdd's actually fit in laptops, while this "wanna-be-2.5" hdd" doesnt, unless you remove that case-cooler, which will void the warranty and will also start countdown to its destruction (until it burns from all that extra heat). Not to mention that unless you own some ToughBook series Notebook, it may also burn or melt something inside it too. Mad
