Ok, first time setting up a RAID system Smile

Specs:
AMD 64 3200+
MSI K8T Neo FISR2 MB
2 x 80gb Seagate SATA

Set it up for striping. When I installed Windows and booted up into Windows noticed that the drive is designated E: NOT C:

My CDRom is listed like normal as D:

Is this normal?

Yea, I've had this happen before with normal IDE that was easy to fix. But it won't let me reassign the drive letter since it's a boot drive.

Also E: kinda made sense. But maybe I'm just wacked in the head (no comments from peanut gallery)....

Never heard of that, but in Windows XP I know you should be able do the following to change drive letters... Or is this what you already tried?

1. Right Click on My Computer on your desktop
2. Click "Manage"
3. Double click "Storage" in the right pane
4. Double click "Disk Management (Local)" in the right pane
5. Right click the drive you want to change
6. Click "Change Drive Letter and Paths"
7. And, you can figure the rest out... Grin

LOL Yes, of course I tried that BB Razz

Tried using the repair console, and it wouldn't let me change the drive letter either.

Gonna delete the RAID and try it again...think I know what caused it to go to E: Noticed I had my USB hub plugged in when I did the install. Didn't think that would screw up the drive letters *shrug* no biggie, won't take long to reinstall XP Pro Smile

God it's a pain in the rear end having to remember to hit "F6" during the XP install! Think I've forgotten that like a dozen times already! LOL

*grumble* Yup, that's what it was, the USB hub was plugged in when I installed XP. Always had it plugged in before, this is the first time that it's done that.... *shrug*

Windows *SHOULD* have recognised the 1st HDD during the install. Anything pluged into the USB hub would have been reported as a REMOVABLE drive.

BUT...Go figure,it's Windows!

Nope, winblows always recognizes usb hubs, card readers, etc... as full blown installable hard drives.

You have to remember to unplug these devices if you want C: to be the boot drive.

I guess this is a good thing, if you ever wanted to install windows to a flash drive or memory stick... Rolling Eyes Laughing

Ok, another question...

Getting a new MB, Processor and Video Card tonight. Will I have to reformat the RAID array again?
