This is from a buddy of mine from another forum .... Please help!

Info on helping US forces in Afghanistan...
I'm posting this in an effort to help out a buddy. Joe is a USAF non-com, currently stationed in Afghanistan working on reconstruction and civil affairs projects. Normally he is stationed up here at McCord AFB as an aircraft armorer. In his latest post(on the VTX board) he asked if any of "us" were interested in sending small items to his APO that he could then give to the native Afghani children, most orphaned. I know Joe is spending most of his paycheck on this himself... the guy is unbelievably generous. Anyway, below is a list of items he requested and his APO address, if anyone wants to contribute, I know he'll make sure it goes to those deserving. Even if its just a card or brief note to Joe, Thanking him for the sacrifice hes making. My THANKS to any and all who can.

items needed are:
toothbrushes
toothpaste
bar soap
plastic soap dishes
cotton socks
writing paper
ballpoint pens
boots, sz 7-10.5, new or used
small toys or stuffed animals

lastly, the USPS large flat rate box, available at any Post Office, will get a $2 discount on the shipping cost, if mailed to an APO address. Do NOT over stuff the box as it will not go out if its bulging, or overstuffed. NO liquids... I'm sure any snack food items would be much appreciated, but please... send NO pork products. These guys are trying to build trust with the population, so please do not make them look bad. Thank you one and all, whether you choose to contribute, or not.

I removed your buddies name, I doubt he'd like all that info plastered all over the internet. Sort of a security thing.

Would suggest you either have people contact you for the info, or have them send it to you and you forward it on.

Grin

But.... Awesome cause!

Great cause, it really does make a difference to the service member and the children in war stricken lands when you lend a helping hand, I know first hand from being in the same situation several times over the years.

Give what you can, when you can, if not to the guy being talked about by the OP, there's many many other Org out there that need support as well.

I want people people in my own country to help themselves before they help others. Last year we gathered 40 mill $ to Iraq, while people are still begging and living on the streets here.
Shame on the Danish community.

That made me laugh a bit Rolling Eyes

But sure, I will send money to Afghanistan as soon as my family can get enough money for food.

McCord isn't far from me, I remember seeing on the news a few months ago how the allowed volenters to use a warehouse to pack relief boxes for (lots of stuff donated, had to be repacked in to individual/family size lots) AF reserve flew a couple C-17's worth over (training mission) the rest is going in containers.
Great effort to help out.

I've been collecting for www.OpFTH.org for the last couple weeks. They have a list and methods for service personnel to sign up to receive items. Have your buddy go there or forward an email to them and he'll get a nice care package.
