Although the burning to cd then ripping trick works, it uses a lot of cd's (unless you use dvd-ram's) and take a lot of time.

Use an RW Disc. Burn the RW, rip from the RW, bam, fresh MP3. Rinse, repeat.

still take more time and effort than my method (unless you're doing as many tracks at once as i do - 200+. thankfully, polderbits has a useful "Automatically seperate into tracks feature which helps...))

WTF - I just signed up for napster... I downloaded a few files and was pissed to see they were WMAs... OK, no matter... tried them in WinAMP anyway... No dice. Will not play. Only play in Windows Media Player.

What can I do with these? From Vulcan's info sounds like not much... I may try to move them off the machine and see what happens. Maybe re-ripped as CD Audio / MP3.

They will work with winamp, however you need v5.06 or later. I don't like it however because theres a 2-3 second pause between songs as winamp gets hold of the licences for them. I think your allowed to move them onto three different pcs, but don't quote me on that.

I have WinAMP 5.08c and nothing works. I also moved them to my laptop which has WinAMP and Windows Media Player... They would not play there as it told me I needed Napster on that PC, too.

Not sure I like this. I only wanted something like this for use in my car, now that the local radio sucks... But, I just want to be able to do this without so much hassle. Direct Connect? Laughing

You need napster on the laptop to allow it to check the licenses, and it probably still won't play then. You find this with all DRM, not just napster.

It's a bit of an arse really. Tonly real method of using the music files is to convert them, and until i find a better method (believe me, i'm trying!), it has to be done the way i've described above.

Well... I gave it a try last night again, and bought a CD from MSN Music... Burned it to a CD, then RIP'd it from that CD to another computer... worked fine. Grin

I can handle it like this. Still supporting the artist, and I can do what I want with my music.

rip rip songs to wav without burning to cd. Ever thought of it. WIndows has a audio recorder. Go into your windows audio properties play around. You can set your recorder to record what your sound card is playing. Then you have them as wav. THen there are a million and one programs to convert to mp3. note every time you re-encode music, your quality drops. You can downgrade audio quality but not upograde it. Meaning going from 128bit and re-encoding to 192 will not upgrade the audio quality. You will merely have a larger file. So re-encode in same bit rate as original file was in.

that is pretty much what i was suggesting with the program polderbits. The nice thing about polderbits, although you pay fro it, is that it includes quite a few editing facilities that are very simple to use. This is the method that i have resorted to using now.
