yes the ND 3500A incorporates a rip lock, so basically when your trying to rip a motion picture to your computer, the reading speed will be like 2-3x. without a rip lock that speed jumps to like 14-15x
so faster rips...
I guess they think if they slow down he ripping speed people will stop ripping 
bit more technical here in this review.
