something much easier...just get the IP of the host and punch that instead of the dns name. If that doesn't work your IT guy(s) actually think your smart!!!
*note* we did not block ips |

haha, are you sure? I wouldn't put it past the average user to be able to ping a domain name and get the IP. Do you check the logs to see if it is happening? _________________ ABAP? What did you call me? |

Average user here doesn't even know what or how to get to a command prompt. I use SARG for reporting which are run every night. I'll check em every so often now, but in the beginning I caught some people using naughty sites
If a url contains a denied word anywhere it is blocked.
EX-www.badsitename.com/xxx.html that would get blocked for the domain name and file name.
EX-10.56.24.137/xxx.html would also get blocked but just for the file name. |

mostly I get blocked when trying to access things on the server... using IP addresses, but with ports on the end like xxx.xxx.xxx:80 or whatever. And then it blocks anything that ends in .dll / .rm / .wmv and so on... |

My company apparently just ditched Squid for something called Dans Guardian...
http://www.dansguardian.org/
Where do they find this stuff?
Anyway - now it blocks me from more stuff, including some threads here. Gives reasons for why, but they are lame... Like, I can't see heylinder's Cost of Christmas thread because "Weighted phrase limit exceeded". Use skinny words people, skinny words!! |
