The hot ticket item now is Intel Conroe.
An E6300 paired with a Gigabyte DS3 or Asus P5B motherboard and 1 or 2 gigs of PC2-6400 DDR2 800.

Knight, you definitely need to get a Core2Duo. I like AMD as much as anyone, but currently they just can't compete.

I'd rather have the Cache on the 6600's.

I just made a nice system for $1209 from newegg, sans the monitor, sound card, mouse, heyboard and speakers.

eVGA GeForce 7900 GT 256mb
Raidmax X1 Case
DFI Infinity 975X ATX Mobo
Sunbeam 550W PSU
Seagate Barracuda SATA 320G HDD 7200 RPM 3Gb/s
Kingston DDR2 667 2GB RAM
NEC 16x DVD+R burner
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 CPU

Been working beautifully. Few random restarts and very minor difficultied with Nvidia drivers are the only problems I've had.
