The whir of laptop fans could become a distant memory as researchers try to commercialize ionic wind cooling technology.
International chip-packaging company Tessera, along with the University of Washington, have demonstrated this system in a working laptop, according to MIT's Technology Review. Commercialization could come as early as next year. |

I don't believe so, cause I was thinking about it and they don't want the laptop's insides to get all gummed up. The one that cleans your air has charged plates that intentionally pull the particulates out of the air, so I'm thinking they could just not include those plates, so the air just gets pushed through...
But if the charged plates are an integral part of how the system works, then it would indeed clean the air, but all the junk in the air would get stuck inside your laptop =/
Either way, it's an interesting idea! |

Looks like a great invention. But I wonder if the day will come that those will replace the common regular laptop fans??? Or...it will remain an invention that never turned into a real product... _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

Looks good in theory, but they still lose to a well built fan in CFM and price/air moved ratio (After 3 or 4 years since I heard about them for the first time).
And until they solve the problem with dust accumulating easier after coming through ioniser they could only be used as exhaust - or with a filter that would lower their CFM again. |

| Putting a SSD will go a long way in removing some heat from the inside of your laptop. |
