Just because it can put out 700W to your system doesn't mean it is drawing 700W from the wall. Actually, I doubt you will ever see 1/2 of that. I think my 500W PSU draws a max of about 150W on the wall, and at idle it is like 90W (@ 165 VA idle and 250VA load). _________________ Sometimes I laugh so hard that the tears run down my leg!

| Yup, very true. Which is why there are multiple efficiency ratings.... |

It's just that the wattage rating is pretty high.
Makes a wide SOA(Safety Operating Area), nice if you plug too much things on it. You're sure you'll never burn it. |

| it seems like wattage is keep getting higher and higher. I wish that we can get more efficient psu so that we don't need that much wattage. |

You mean more efficient optical drives, harddrives, CPUs, and the big ones...video cards. The PSUs are efficient, it's supplying more and more wattage because more and more hardware require it. _________________ 5 home-built PCs, ASUS A6Jc Laptop, and a PowerEdge 2650 - all running Gentoo. Now if only I can get a car and plane to run it. Take a look at my Gallery! |

| Thankfully they are starting to get higher effecient psu's. You can get some in the 90% range, but you are going to pay for it.... |

| There is some efficient hardware, it's just that not a lot of people playing games would really want to use them. (VIA CPU, S3 Chrome GPU, Slim DVD-RW, laptop HDD, ... |
