Is any kind of ram capable of Dual Channel as long as they are paired? Or is it specific ram?
Also, is there a big performance increase using 2 512Meg sticks in Dual Channel, vs 1 1Gb sticks? |

I would say the kits are generally a marketing gimmick, but they do give you a matched set, which is what you want in dual channel. If you have an existing stick you want to use in dual channel, do your best to hunt down another stick that is the same size, speed, latency, etc... as you will only be able to run as well as the weaker stick if you don't.
I would definitely get two 512's for dual channel over 1 stick to take advantage of the increased bamdwidth / quicker access times! _________________ Sometimes I laugh so hard that the tears run down my leg!

Anyone have a stick of Corsair XMS PC2700 they want to sell? Mine is getting lonely... _________________ Due to a not-that-interesting turn of events, I am now known as Justin Danger. |
