Very interestingly, the patent for Cherry mechanical switches has expired, allowing other manufacturers to start producing their own brand of mechanical switches. Thermaltake was among the first companies to pick up some of these new switches from Kailh (pronounced like the plant: KALE) and use them on their newest variant of the Poseidon Z keyboard. By using these switches, they have shaved off quite a bit of the premium normally seen for mechanical keyboards, but has it shaved off quality as well? pureoverclock.com
