SAN FRANCISCO — The video game industry on Wednesday changed to adults-only the rating of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," a best-selling title in which explicit sexual content can be unlocked with an Internet download.

The decision followed intense pressure from politicians and media watch groups.

From my point of view that is a good thing. I am not against that kind of content being available at all in fact I would like to see even more controversial content in video games. That being said I want it made clear that it is there because I damn sure dont want my kids getting a game and then a month later finding a hack or whatever ti was that unlocked the hidden scenes and then seeing that kind of thing. Why not just make it part of the main stream game and then mark it as such? My personal belief is that the game maker did this intentionally to gain publicity after game was released and I for one hope it back fires on them.

I don't think they put this content into the game... I think this "hacker" just is making the game company look bad.

Also... your going to protect your kids from this game because it could harness sexual content? How about other games... even counterstrike where everyone can have custom porn-sprays or have it.

And whats to stop your kid from surfing online and coming across content? Somebody on an instant messenger? You can't always protect your kids....

No the company admitted they shipped the game with the content on the CD but they had it locked and some one " found out" how to unlock it. I realize I cant protect my kids from everything but they dont have any IM apps on their computer and they know I regularly check to see where they are surfing to. It is not like they have not seen a naked body like you might in a CS spray but they dont need to see sexual acts like the ones in that game and I may not be 100% in keeping them from seeing that kind of thing but I can and will try my best. Would you hand a copy of GTA San Andreas to your 9 yr old knowing that was on the disk? And if you did, not knowing it was on the disk and then they found the cheat to get into it how would you feel? I would be pissed!!! All I am saying is the game producer should be up front with it if they are going to put that kind of content on the disk.

What Randy is saying, is that it's our rights as a parents to know what our kids are doing. Companies don't have to stop doing this stuff, just let the parents know so we can decided what is or isn't right for our kids.

And this should make an interesting legal case.
If the company 'knowingly' distributed porn, lock or not (nothing stays locked for long) they will be held liable for civil and criminal prosecution.
In some areas/states it could end up with long/life sentences
Hard to explain to your new roomie at the pen.
and the rest of the video game industry, must be really pissed, between the violence and sex, they are probably looking at lots of new regulation.
What the hell were they thinking?

The title was rated Mature prior to Adults.

To me that means Mature is pretty much Adult.

You cant get to HotCoffee without a code or patch so its pretty much your own resposibility not the vendor.

So there is a certain level of responsibility to the buyer especially when the Title is GRAND THEFT AUTO. Sure isnt PacMan.

While they will try to make an example out of them thier biggest mistake was first announcing it was planted there and not a part of the original game. Stupid because a day later someone found the keycode to unlock it for the PS2. For that statement they will get into Hot Trouble.
