Well... I managed to get a board & CPU's off Deatstar, so as of this weekend my main rig is now running as a Duallie.

Here's the spec's:

Tyan Tiger MP Motherboard
Dual Athlon MP 1800+
512MB ECC PC2100
SiliconImage IDE RAID controller
2 x 60 Maxtor HDD's RAID 0
1 IBM 60GB HDD
ATI 8500LE (deciding which card to upgrade too)
XP Pro

So far, so good... it's pretty darn fast, and operates real smoothly.

hehehe.. sucker..

now you'll never wanna go back to single CPU.

Just figure another $100 for SMP board and $200+ for CPU when building future machines. Wave

I'm up to (3) SMP machines for my personal use.

main rig: SMP K7D Master -L (2)1200MP @ 1533mhz
web/file server: Acorp 6A815EPD (2)700 P6's
experiment/future DNS server: Asus P55T2P4D (2)200mhz P55c's

The rest in the house are all single CPUs.

Now you just need some appz that can support dualies.
Actually I have a question about dualies, if you're running multiple applications, do they actually load balance on each CPU?

If they are multi-threaded applications then each new thread will run on different CPU's. The OS handles assigning threads to CPU's.

That's cool. Would love one of those. Though my Athlon 2000+ alone makes enough heat to keep my room warm in winter so I can imagine a duallie. Grin I had to block the vent completly otherwise it's too hot in here. Sometimes I even have to open the window when it's 30 below. Grin

That heat issue doesn't sound right man... I wish mine kicked out heat like that... I have electric baseboard heat which can't even keep the place comfy in the dead of winter, plus it costs about $300/month just for my electric bill... I'd move a pc into every room, and cut the bill in half!!
