Sunbeamtech Silent Storm ATX Case
January 13, 2006

Testing:

To test the thermal properties of the Sunbeamtech Silent Storm, I installed the following equipment:

» AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor
» ECS KN1 SLI Extreme motherboard (default settings)
» 2 - BFG Technologies GeForce 6600GT OC PCI-Express in SLI
» 2gb (4x512) Samsung 3200 DDR
» 2 - Seagate 80gb SATA
» 1 - Hitachi 120gb SATA
» Memorex DVD/CDRW
» CoolerMaster CoolDrive 4 (used to take temperatures and fan speed)

The default fan speed, 1020RPM is pretty close to the maximum speed of 1060RPM. At the default speed, these fans are quiet. They provide a slight hum, but the CPU and power supply fans drown it out. All of the fans are normal non-LED fans, but that is not an issue, because the side panel does not include a window. There is an optional acrylic side window available for the Silent Storm, and with that installed you might want to consider LED fans.

Here you can see the various temperatures reported by the Coolermaster CoolDrive IV. All temperatures were taken at the default speeds shown above while the case was closed and the system being used normally.
