Inspection (continued):

Turning our attention to the power supply, the bottom of the unit features the normal power supply information. It includes the model number, and various power ratings. There is nothing surprising about any of this.

On the back of the power supply you can see the standard power plug, off/reset switch, and voltage selector. In addition to those three items, you can see the three US power sockets, the horizontal fan exhaust, and a 12v dc plug. There was no cable included to use the 12v dc plug though.

On the front of the power supply there is a single intake that pulls air from the inside of your case over the internal components by the 15cm fan.

The cables are the last external aspect before installation and evaluation. There are many connectors provided. There are three (3) separate cables that include the normal 20pin ATX, 4pin ATX (for those with 24pin ATX motherboards), 4pin 12V lines. Next there are three other cables that include two 4pin molex connectors. Two of these cables include SATA power plugs. The third cable includes the old floppy power plug. Finally there is the AUX plug. All of the cables are long enough to reach any location within my full tower Thermaltake Shark case. One thing you might notice here is that only the 20pin ATX cable is wrapped. This is the first negative to the unit. While it is not a requirement, wrapping the cables help keep the case looking good.

Opening the unit (which will void any warranty), you can see the top of the 15cm horizontal exhaust fan. Removing the fan you can see the bottom of it, and that it looks quite similar to an expansion slot blower.

The inside of the power supply includes two large heat sinks, the 15cm fan controller, and several large capacitors. One thing I quickly noticed is the 15cm fan is hard wired to the controller. It would be nice if it were a plug instead of being hard wired. I can't count this as a negative though, as you really shouldn't open the unit.
