Thermaltake Blue Orb II CPU Cooler
December 28, 2005

The Basics:

Now let's see what the inside of the package has in store for us. The bright blue aluminum fins from the Blue Orb II surround a clear 120mm fan. In the center of the fan we see the Thermaltake logo and the words Blue Orb II. A side profile is also shown below to give an idea of depth. The nine large blades on the fan are set deep inside the heatsink's large fins.

The next image shows the mounting screws peeking out from between the fins of the heatsink. A screw driver easily slides between the fan blades and the heatsink fins. Also seen on the right hand side is the fan's power connector sticking out of the bottom between fins.

When I look for a quality heatsink I always like to see a well polished copper seating surface. This is because a smooth surface helps conduct heat evenly and effectively, which is the whole purpose of the heatsink. Thermaltake has done a good job polishing this heatsink, although it is not perfect.

Now let's see the mounting bracket a little closer (above right image). This is comprised of two screws and a rigid metal bracket. Notice in the image that the screw has a spring around it. This spring is to keep the screw from over tightening when installed.

Included with the Blue Orb II were a few parts necessary for installation. Below we see both the K8 and LGA775 mounting brackets and accessories.

Also included were a packet of thermal grease and a set of basic instructions for installation.
