 | Every game I have ran great at 1600x1200 resolution. With the exception of Far Cry and Doom 3, I was able to run at least 4x Anti Aliasing and 8x Antostropic Filtering and maintain a 30fps minimum... I was able to overclock the card from its Golden Sample defaults of 350/1000 to 425/1150 for every day use, its completely stable, no artifacts, not even on the turtles back in 3Dmark03 Nature. - The Review |

Nice rerview, and a lovely card.
I bought one, I was a little dissapointed to find myself in the garage hacksawing the corner of the fan mounting so that I could plug it into my ASUS K8V SE Deluxe because it got in the way of the SATA plugs. (It wouldn't have mattered if I wasn't using them)
Like you, I also got better cooling by re-doing the heatsink with Arctic Silver V. I also removed the spacers on the moffset heatsink to get a better fit - it was hardly touching.
With a card of this price I'd have liked to see the a little more care in its build.
I also find the fans a little noisy, as I'm becoming obsessed with fast *and quiet*
However - I didn't buy it for the stuff that's stuck to it, I bought it for the card that was tested at a respectable oveclock. I'm looking forward to Zalman adding the 6800 mounting kit to their Reserator VGA block, so I can add it to my watercooling loop (at which time, I'll replace those ram sinks with their fat pads for the Zalmann ones). Then I'll look for a thoroughly dis-respectful overclock

Hey thanks for the great reviews... The information on the thermal paste problem was a great asset to me. I recently purchased this card 2400GT GS.... to replace a 5600GT from Gainward. Once installed the 2400GT seemed to be running hot, idle was about 61 degrees. I recalled this review and I dismantled the card and found that only about 2/3 of the GPU was coverd with thermal paste. I fixed that and the card runs at 50 degrees now..... Thanks again....
By the way I love the card and only had a small problem mounting it.... I use a Gigabyte GA8-IPE1000 Pro2... the video card does interfere with one of the SATA conectors. A small piece of the shroud on the card had to be removed to allow the conector to be inserted. |

Hi..
I also have a Gainward 6800GT GSl. I had a problem with heat as well and removed the copper heat sink and put some Arctic Silver on it. Load temps are now @ 65 degrees C. I had a problem overclocking the card at first - it would not run @ 400 /1100 without artifacts. Loaded a modded PNY Bios with GPU @ 1.4v for 3D and 1.1v for 2D. It runs fine at 420/1170. |

Before, i sure wish to have this card. running warcraft3 with gf2 mx400 64bit in not great. During Bus travel to provinces I looked at the Mountains and forest and think of a Geforce 6800 being able to give a detail same as what im looking. Just like Warcraft3 _________________ Celeron 430 @1.8Ghz, Intel G31 Video, 1gig kingston 5-5-5-15@666Mhz, AOC 19in LCD equals Plays Warcraft 3 all max 1440x900 no problem including office works, projects, browse and surf |
