It is portable, sharable between computers, compatible with notebook computers, will not require you to open your desktop computer, and you do not need to have an available PCI slot. Note: this card ONLY works with the software that comes with it.

It will not be recognized by Windows XP Media edition(for the built in media functions)

It will not be recognized by Linux.

Most other programs for viewing TV are not usable with this card(SageTV was kind of iffy, nothing else worked)

All in all, I'd recommend getting something that will work with other programs than locking yourself into their program.
