Here is the hardware list I am working on for my new machine, codename: tank. This is, by no means, an original list. But from some reading have found this to be a working platform for the os's that I want to install.

- ASUS P7P55D-E Pro LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
- EVGA 01G-P3-N959-TR GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP
- Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor BX80605I7860 (not sure about this?
- G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (qty: 2)
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache
- LITE-ON Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW

Not sure if i should go with the i7 or i5 at this time.

Goal:
- My goal of this system will be to have a dual or tri boot. Ubuntu, Windows and Mac. Yes, This is going to be a hackintosh.

I am going to use this method to get mac up and running on this. http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/iboot-multibeast-install-mac-os-x-on.html

Suggestions?

More RAM. 12GB is cheap, heck 16GB isn't even that much. And it's worth if for any 64bit OS.

Not to sidetrack your thread, but once you get that Hackintosh working - give a report back on the process.

My old lady is a Mac person, but my wallet is prefers Win-PC based computers. She's in need of a new platform since most of Mac software is now coded for Intel based CPU's. I'd like to build her a Hackintosh someday. Smile

That series of hard drive is the one that had the serious firmware issue. While I would assume any drive available now was built with the latest firmware, you should make sure... Or is this a drive you have already (and hopefully know as good)?

I would say an SSD is worth it, but maybe not for this system. With one OS you can get away with a 40GB or so SSD boot drive and have a big traditional hard drive for files. But, if you want multiple OSes, you might wind up needing a big SSD and will have to lay down some big bucks!
