I have these half-height RAMs from Kingston. Is it helpful to put heat spreaders when I overclock from 800Mhz to 900Mhz?

Probably not necessary really. That isn't too extreme and the heat probably doesn't warrant it.
What do you use them for? A low profile module would be a better idea for me in that car pc, but I jam a full height stick in there. _________________ Sometimes I laugh so hard that the tears run down my leg!

As long as you have semi good air flow in your chassis heat spreaders aren't really needed for that type of OC IMHO. _________________ "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."........Albert Einstein |

@ Jason -- I use them in my main rig. They're the cheapest available I could find. I think they're ideal for HTPC and car PC. Here's the newegg link:

@sbrehm72255-- yeah, I agree. It might just be useless with the moderate OC I do. Last night I was able to OC to 900Mhz with just the stock 1.8v.
One advantage of putting the heatspreaders is I can easily take out and put back in the half-height modules.
I'm just worried that if it doesn't help much, will it harm my RAMs? |

You linked to a big module... After looking at this I actually bought a half height 1GB module this morning... $12 shipped from Newegg. Nutty!

Did you read the customers' review on the link I posted? They seem to be talking about half-heights
Will you put heatspreaders on yours |

I won't be putting heatspreaders on. No room for them, and I don't think they're necessary. Check out this look at DDR2 heatspreaders...

| Very interesting results, wonder if OCZ saw it and commented on the temps... |

I think the answers are "yes they saw it" and "no they did not comment".

I did some more online research on topic like you posted and so I decided not to put heatspreaders anymore. It's not practical for the very minimal OC that I do |
