We've seen a few coolers for the Core i7 platform come across the Bigbruin.com test bench recently and today we have one that has garnered quite a bit of attention elsewhere; the Prolimatech Megahalems. Prolimatech is a Taiwanese manufacturer of cooling products that got their start in 2008, and at this time they have just one cooler, the Megahalems.

The promotional image above shows an overview of this cooler which weighs in at 790g (without a fan), and features 6 sets of 6mm U-shaped heatpipes. Before we take a closer look at the unit on hand, let's take a look at some published information on it from the product page at Crazy PC. Crazy PC has been in business since 1999, and they carry a large inventory of high performance computing components like the Megahalems.

Features:

Prolimatech Megahalem CPU Cooler
Includes mounting hardware for Intel Socket 775 and Socket 1366 Processors
Minimal air resistance between fins allowing best balance between noise and performance in range of 800-1200RPM
6mm heatpipes nickel plated to prevent oxidation maintaining best heat transfer condition
Includes fan clips (fan sold separately)
Heatpipes are lined up in a straight line to prevent air back draft allowing air to easily pass through the heatsink body
Accepts a 120mm Cooling Fan (sold separately - see options)
Fan clips included for 120mm cooling fan
Soldered fins to copper base (nickel plated) to make effective contact
Includes thermal grease.

Specifications:

Model: Megahalems
Compatibility: Intel LGA 775, LGA 1366, Core i7
Heat Pipes: 6 x 6mm Heat Pipes
Mounting: Bolt through motherboard retention for secure mounting
Heatsink Dimensions: L130 x W74 x H158.7 mm (heatsink only)

As mentioned, the cooler does not include a fan. Crazy PC chose to send over a Scythe Kaze-Jyuni 120mm unit for review purposes, but they offer plenty of other options so that an end user could get just the right balance of noise, air flow, and style.
