Powermat does one thing; develop technology to wirelessly charge a variety of devices including mobile phones, media players, e-readers, laptops, and portable game systems. Currently their line-up includes two chargers, three charging adapters for iPods, four adapters for Blackberries, two adapters for the Nintendo DS, and the Powercube universal receiver with tips for many other devices.

Unlike several similar products, Powermat uses magnetic inductive charging. What this means is that no power is directly sent to the device being charged. So no electrical contacts are needed to charge the device. Powermat can allow you to charge up to four devices at a time (three wirelessly and one using an integrated USB port). This can reduce the need to find outlets for numerous charging bricks, which keeps things neat and can in turn help reduce the amount of power used.

This review is going to take a look at Powermat's portable wireless charging mat, shown in the promotional image above. Before we take a closer look at the sample on hand, let's take a look at some published information taken from official product page on the Powermat website.

Features:

Wirelessly charges up to 3 Powermat-enabled devices simultaneously (plus one USB power port). Folds for ultra-compact storage. Works with all Powermat receivers. Universal Powercube with 8 tips is included to enable you to charge hundreds of devices.

This is the charging station you always dreamed of. One cord, one mat, one place to charge all your handheld devices. The Portable mat uses magnetic induction and Powermat proprietary technology to charge your handheld devices quickly, efficiently, and wirelessly. Connect your device(s) to a Powermat receiver -- either the Powercube or a dedicated receiver -- and place it on the Powermat surface to start charging.

The Portable mat comes fully equipped with the Powercube Universal Receiver - the ultimate adapter solution that can charge 1,000s of devices including Kindles, eReaders, digital Kodak cameras, Bluetooth headsets, handheld game players, many many cell phone brands and models and more.
