A system with the following components was used to test the 512MB Sapphire Ultimate Radeon HD4670 graphics card:
» ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution X48 ATX motherboard
» Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 dual core processor (at 3.2GHz)
» G.Skill 4GB DDR3-1600 Pi Series dual channel memory kit
(at 1600MHz and 7-7-7-18)
» OCZ Technology Vendetta CPU cooler
» Maxtor MaxLine III 250GB SATA 3Gbps hard drive
» TSST Super WriteMaster optical drive
» Nesteq EECS 700 Watt ultra quiet power supply
All tests were conducted in the 32-Bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, and the latest drivers were downloaded from the AMD website (Catalyst 9.1) in lieu of the drivers provided on the card.
The screenshot below provides details on the 512MB Sapphire Ultimate Radeon HD4670 as provided by Techpowerup.com's GPU-Z
For comparison purposes the following two other video cards were tested head-to-head with the 512MB Sapphire Ultimate Radeon HD4670:
» Sapphire 512MB Radeon HD4830
» Sapphire Toxic 512MB Radeon HD4850
These cards represent the middle ground of the current Radeon lineup, and will show what you might expect from other 512MB cards in the family.
The tests to be executed include one synthetic benchmark, five benchmarks integrated with DirectX 10 capable 3D games, power consumption testing, thermal testing, and some subjective testing in an HTPC enclosure. Each card was run through the following tests, and the system was rebooted between each run.
» FutureMark 3DMark Vantage
» World in Conflict
» PT Boats - Knights of the Sea
» Devil May Cry
» Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts
» Call of Juarez
» Power Consumption Testing
» Thermal Testing
» HTPC Testing
While I felt obliged to run performance tests on this card, as I would on any graphics card, we will see that this is not where the Sapphire Ultimate Radeon HD4670 really shines. It has some of the makings of a gaming graphics card, but it is really intended to serve in an HTPC.
That said, we will fly through the 3D performance tests without much comment, as the numbers speak for themselves.
