Thermaltake Toughpower QFan 650W Power Supply

Packaging and Accessories:

The Thermaltake Toughpower QFan 650W power supply is sold in the white cardboard box shown below. The various surfaces of the box provide plenty of images and information, and you could learn just about all you would want to know about this power supply by studying the box.

Inside the box we find the power supply is well protected within foam forms and a bubble-wrap bag. The cables are all stored in a cardboard box of their own, with a bit of literature and a case badge stuck in on top.

The accessories provided with the unit include a rubbery gasket to isolate the PSU from the computer case, four mounting screws, a heavy weight power cable, a modular PCI Express 8-pin to 6-pin adaptor, and a Velcro sealed bag with the rest of the modular cables.

External Examination:

With the Toughpower QFan 650W power supply completely unpacked, the first thing that caught my attention was the funky color scheme. I guess I should have noticed it on the box, but it wasn't obviously until I saw the actual unit. While most power supplies you see these days are black or silver with a black or clear fan, this one is best described as "metallic putty" with a white fan. Definitely different, and not particularly edgy or macho (if that is something you are concerned about with a PSU).

The fan's color isn't the only interesting feature, as you can see through the grill that the frame appears to have been cut away. This is what makes it a "QFan", as the specially designed frame is just one part of what makes it so quiet while still being able to move a good deal of air.
