Overclocking (continued):
Sisoft Sandra shows, as expected, that increasing the memory speed by 108MHz, and nearly doubling the CPU speed along the way, provides a huge improvements in memory bandwidth.
This overclock proves to be quite a boost in Super Pi, providing a reduction in calculation time of over 10 minutes!
Please remember, these results can't be directly compared to the initial results because of the change in CPU speed. For the record, 1174MHz (7x489, 5-5-5-15, 5:6 memory multiplier and 2.3v) was the fastest overclock I was able achieve while operating within the manufacturer's specifications.
I suspect that loosening the timings and raising the voltage would yield more gains in memory speed, but would do so at the expense of CPU speed. 489MHz seems to be the top end for my motherboard's FSB, and to go any higher I would have to lower the FSB and increase the memory multiplier. In other words, going beyond 1174MHz would result in only marginal gains in performance and would likely require voltages that exceeded OCZ Technology's specifications.
