Icy Dock MB664US-1SB Screwless eSATA Hard Drive Enclosure
December 07, 2007

Installation:

With the latch on the front of the enclosure released, you can push in on the bottom of the front door and lift it up and out of the way for drive installation.

On the inside of the enclosure there is a sticker which shows which way the hard drive should be inserted; the power connector should be to the right, with the SATA data connection on the left. The below right image shows this sticker, as well as the thickness of the aluminum. The aluminum allows this enclosure to be lightweight, while still being very sturdy.

The image below shows the inside of the enclosure prior to inserting a hard drive. There is a little arm in the back of the enclosure which will eject the hard drive. As the door is opened, the arm swings out and pushes the hard drive off the connectors. Inside the enclosure there are also some strips along the sides, top, and bottom of the hard drive. These keep the hard drive from moving around inside the enclosure, and also help to reduce vibrations when the drive is in use.

Sliding the drive into the enclosure, you can almost get the drive all the way in before the door starts to close. Once the drive is well into the enclosure, the door will be pushed down due to the hard drive pressing onto the ejection arm. Simply press the door into place and the hard drive will be securely connected to the power and data connections.

To complete the installation you will need a few accessories, and everything is included in the package. In the image below we see a SATA to eSATA expansion bracket, an eSATA cable, a USB 2.0 data cable, and a small power brick with power cable. For those that might have difficulty figuring out how to install the hard drive, there is also an easy to follow installation manual.

Once the drive is installed and powered up, the white LED activates. This light is fairly bright, and might cause some people to become annoyed with it. When the drive is in use, the white LED will flicker to indicate activity.
