Internal Inspection (continued):

The back section of the enclosure contains a PCB which has all the connection cables, power cables, and controller chips. The included 60mm exhaust fan is a simple black unit which uses a two pin power cable.

Near the SATA data connections are two sets of jumpers, which is how the system is configured to access the hard drives. The default position set the drives for RAID 0 (Striping), and when you close the other jumper and open the default jumper you will configure the device for JBOD (Spanning). There is a third setting, no jumper on either. This setting will enable the device for use with a single hard drive.

The 60mm exhaust fan is setup to draw in cool air from the front of the case, and expel it out of the back. While the fan produced a little noise, it was not extremely loud. When the enclosure was placed next to my satellite DVR receiver I was not able to hear the enclosure's fan, but I was able to hear the fan in the DVR.

Installation:

As mentioned previously, there is a bracket that is used to mount your hard drives. This should not pose any installation issues, as you simply slide your hard drive into place and secure it with four screws. Depending on your hard drives, there could be very little room between the two drives, but with the new low profile hard drives you will have a significant amount of space between the drives for air to flow across them.
