NZXT Adamas Premium Aluminum Chassis
November 20, 2006

The Basics (continued):

Here are the two included 120mm side panel fans. According to a Google search of the model number, the speed is 1200RPM. The thing I don't like about all four included fans is that they only have a 4-pin Molex power connector. I would rather use a 3-pin connector that would attach right to my motherboard. I think NZXT should include a 3-pin to 4-pin adapter so the user has the choice of connecting the fans either way.

The inside of the case looks just like the exterior, silver aluminum! The first thing I noticed was the rear 120mm fan's position. It is not flush with the back I/O panel and I can already anticipate a problem with my motherboard's audio module (which sticks out a few millimeters from the I/O plate).

As expected from the outside inspection, the expansion slots are in fact pull-off covers. This is a bad design for anyone who makes hardware changes while using the same case (unused slots are open for dust to enter). The motherboard area does look a little skimpy in the width department for a full-size ATX board (which I will be installing). The 5.25" device bays look very nice with rubber inserts to cushion the devices. However they are not screw/tool-less, except for the two sets of metal brackets which can be used for two optical drives.

Here are the 3.5" device bays, which require a screwdriver and screws. The top bay is the one external bay and the second bay is basically wasted because of the front I/O panel wiring. I don't understand the point of routing the wires through a 3.5" bay which basically renders the area useless (unless you want a 3.5" device sticking out two inches on top of your motherboard. On the other hand, you can see they continued the rubber inserts for all device bays. In the right picture you can see the front 120mm fan which blows air through the devices mounted in the bottom four bays. I am not fond of the direction for mounting the hard drives; it is much harder to swap a hard drive out this way with a large graphics card.
